We are a strong supporter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Kimberly Earle is MADD’s new CEO. Here’s an excerpt of a recent letter to volunteers and supporters.
“We are serving a victim or survivor of drunk driving every ten minutes — more than double the number we served just six years ago. We are making terrific progress in protecting our families from drunk driving through the use of current and advanced technology, with 81 million Americans now protected by ignition interlock laws across the country. And we are educating parents about how to keep their children alcohol-free.
The future is bright at MADD. We recently announced an exciting new partnership with the National Football League and the NFL Players Association to get the message out to football players and fans alike. We are launching new programs and working to ensure that the MADD mission continues to engage and inspire existing and potential supporters. Most importantly, we have saved nearly 300,000 lives saved…and counting.
I am so excited to be a part of MADD. Together, we can let the nation know what you already know… that the end of drunk driving is near, but that it will not happen unless we demand it…and that underage drinking does not have to be a part of our culture.
PS. Our volunteers are the lifeblood of MADD, so if you would like to volunteer at your local office, you can find it here. Or just give us a call and 800-GET-MADD and we can help you find a volunteer opportunity that works for you.
PPS. With your help, cars can be the cure for drunk driving. In fact, there’s a bill that would help create smart car technology before Congress. Can you email your representative about this important legislation?”
We’ve all seen the devastation of drinking and driving–many through our work in the legal profession and some personally. Please consider supporting this important organization.
